Quick summary (non-binding)
- bebored is for users 16+, is not medical advice, not therapy, and not for emergencies.
- You start as a guest with a random identifier and a random pal. Saving an account with an email code is optional and only for restoring on another device.
- Other people see your pal, its name and, unless you hide it, an approximate country flag. Never your email, never your location.
- Rooms hold at most three people. You can wave, send a few fixed reactions, and leave one of thirty preset notes. No free text, no feed, no followers. You can sit unseen, block and report.
- No third-party ads or cross-app tracking in the app. The marketing website may use analytics or marketing cookies with your consent.
- You can delete your account in the app or by email; backups are cleared within ~90 days.
- The Boredom Pass is a one-time purchase handled by Apple or Google, or in the web app by the payment provider shown at checkout (saved account required). No subscription.
- For anything else: support@beboredapp.com.
Terms of Service
1. Who we are
bebored is provided by Hitaya Kollektiv ApS (the “Company”, “we”, “us”). These Terms apply to your use of the bebored app on iOS and Android and of the bebored web app at beboredapp.com/app (together, the “Service”).
2. Eligibility & age
You must be 16 years or older to use bebored. If you are under 16, you may not use the Service. By using the Service, you confirm you meet this requirement.
3. Not medical advice; no emergencies
bebored offers short, guided periods of doing nothing: a timer, a recorded voice now and then, a small animated character, and the quiet company of a few other people.
- The Service does not provide medical advice and is not a substitute for professional healthcare or mental health services.
- Using the Service does not create a therapist-patient or doctor-patient relationship.
- Other people in the Service are ordinary users, not professionals, and nothing they send you is advice.
Do not use the Service in emergencies or crisis situations. If you believe you are experiencing an emergency or may harm yourself or others, contact your local emergency number or crisis hotline immediately and seek professional help.
4. Guests and accounts
You can use bebored as a guest. The app creates a random identifier for you and stores your pal, settings and progress against it, without asking for your name or email.
You may optionally save your account by entering an email address and the one-time code we send to it. A saved account lets you restore your pal, history and purchases on another phone, tablet or browser. One account is active on one device at a time; the app asks before handing over.
You are responsible for your device and for access to the email inbox you use. You agree that the information you provide is accurate and kept up to date.
5. License & acceptable use
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms. You agree not to:
- Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the Service;
- Reverse engineer or decompile the app except as permitted by law;
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, or circumvent security, rate limits or access controls;
- Use the Service in any unlawful manner;
- Harass other people, impersonate anyone, or attempt to identify, track or contact other users outside the Service.
6. Company, names, reactions and notes
bebored has small social features. They are deliberately limited, and these limits are part of the Service:
- Rooms. While you have the app open you may be placed in a room with at most two other people who are also in the app. They see your pal, your pal’s name and, unless you hide it, a small flag for your approximate country. You see the same about them. You can switch on sit unseen in settings to be invisible to others.
- Waves and reactions. You can wave at someone who is awake, and after a session send one of a small, fixed set of reactions to people you actually overlapped with. Reactions are rate-limited and expire.
- Notes. After a session you can leave one of a fixed list of preset notes for whoever comes next. Notes are stored as the identifier of the preset you chose, together with your pal and name. There is no free-text chat in the Service; the pal name is the only text you type that others see.
- Names. Your pal’s name is shown to others. Names are validated and must not be offensive, misleading, impersonate another person, or contain personal data such as a phone number or email. We may reset a name that breaks these rules.
- Block and report. You can block or report any person from within the app. We may restrict or remove access for anyone who misuses these features.
Your progress, pal, chosen notes and reactions are your content within the Service. You remain responsible for the choices you make there. We do not actively monitor rooms, but we may access this data as needed for debugging, support, safety or legal reasons, as described in the Privacy Policy.
7. Voices and other content
The Service includes recorded guidance voices, artwork, characters and text. This content is owned by us or our licensors and is provided for use within the Service only.
8. Changes, availability & updates
We may modify or discontinue parts of the Service at any time, including features, content, or availability. Rooms depend on who else happens to be in the app; we do not promise that anyone else will be present. We may push updates, fixes, or new versions. Where required by law, we will provide notice of material changes to these Terms or the Service.
9. Fees & Boredom Pass
Every goal, every starting length, your pal, rooms, reactions and notes are free. bebored offers one optional paid upgrade, the Boredom Pass:
- A one-time purchase, not a subscription. It does not renew.
- It unlocks the choice of guidance voice and the ability to add five minutes to attention and relax sessions, plus any further Pass features we may introduce.
Purchases in the apps are handled by the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, and the applicable store terms (including refund policies) apply. In the web app, the Pass is purchased through the payment provider shown at checkout, under its terms, and requires a saved (email-verified) account so the purchase can be recovered.
The Pass is linked to your account. To use it on another device, save your account (see section 4) or use the store’s restore purchases function. We may change prices or offerings; where required, you will receive notice before changes take effect.
10. Notifications & communications
We may send you:
- Reminders you set up in the app, delivered as push notifications if you allow them on your device or browser;
- Service notifications (for example a reaction you received, or important account information) based on our legitimate interests in providing the Service; and
- Optional product updates only if you have given consent.
You can control notifications in your device or browser settings and, where available, in the app. You can withdraw consent to optional communications at any time.
11. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party services, for example the Apple and Google app stores, hosting and database providers, push notification delivery and crash reporting. Your use of those services may be subject to their own terms and policies, in addition to ours. The Privacy Policy lists the categories of providers we use.
12. Intellectual property
All rights, title, and interest in and to the Service (including text, graphics, characters, logos, audio, software, and content) are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by law. Except for the license granted above, no rights are transferred to you.
13. Feedback
If you submit ideas, suggestions, or feedback, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable, sublicensable license to use and incorporate them without obligation or restriction.
14. Disclaimers
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that other people will be present or behave in any particular way.
15. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under mandatory law (including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for intentional misconduct).
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for:
- Indirect or consequential losses;
- Loss of profits or data; or
- Any amount exceeding the greater of EUR 50 or the amounts you paid to us (if any) in the 12 months before the event giving rise to liability.
16. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. You can delete your account and data from the app’s settings, or by emailing support@beboredapp.com. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or for safety, security or operational reasons. Upon termination, the license granted to you ends.
17. Governing law & venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of Denmark, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the courts of Copenhagen, Denmark, unless mandatory law gives you the right to bring actions elsewhere as a consumer.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice (e.g., in-app). Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

Privacy Policy
1. Who is the controller?
Hitaya Kollektiv ApS is the controller for personal data processed via the bebored apps and web app.
- Contact: support@beboredapp.com
- CVR: 45890899
2. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the bebored apps for iOS and Android and to the bebored web app at beboredapp.com/app. The marketing pages of our website are covered by the Cookie Policy below. The marketing pages do not create an account or identifier for you.
3. What data we collect
We collect the following categories of personal data:
Guest identifier
Examples: a random identifier created when you first use the app, stored on your device or in your browser
Source: Generated by the app. It is not your name and is not shared with other users.
Account data (optional)
Examples: your email address and the one-time codes used to verify it, if you choose to save your account
Source: Provided by you
Pal and public profile
Examples: your pal’s shape, colour and name; your approximate country, derived from your network (IP) address, which you can hide
Source: Chosen or randomised by you in the app; country inferred from your connection. We never request precise location or GPS.
Presence and sessions
Examples: that you are in the app, which room you are in, whether you are sitting, your chosen goal and length, when sessions start and end, whether your session overlapped with someone else’s, waves and reactions sent and received
Source: Generated during your use of the app
Notes
Examples: the identifier of the preset note you chose to leave, together with your pal, name and time. There is no free text.
Source: Chosen by you in the app
Progress
Examples: sessions completed, minutes, streaks, days with company
Source: Generated during your use of the app
Purchases
Examples: whether your account has the Boredom Pass and a store transaction reference. We never see your card details.
Source: Apple App Store, Google Play, or the web payment provider named at checkout
Safety
Examples: people you have blocked, reports you make and reports made about you
Source: Provided by you or other users
Device & app data
Examples: device model, OS or browser version, app version, language, push notification token if you enable reminders
Source: Your device, browser or app
Diagnostics
Examples: crash logs, performance events
Source: App or OS, via crash reporting tools
We do not collect precise location, do not access your contacts, photos or microphone, and do not use third-party advertising SDKs or cross-app tracking in the Service.
4. Who can see what
- People in your room (at most two at a time) see your pal, its name, whether you are sitting, and, unless hidden, your approximate country as a small flag. They do not see your email, identifier or device.
- People who come later may see a note you left, shown with your pal, its name and roughly how long ago you left it.
- People you overlapped with may receive your reactions, and you theirs, for a limited time after a session.
- Sit unseen hides you from rooms. You still see notes. Your sessions still count for you.
- The founder of bebored may be notified that someone is practising alone and may open the app to join. He then appears as an ordinary participant and sees exactly what any other person in your room sees.
We never show real people who are not actually present, and we never invent presence.
5. Purposes and legal bases (GDPR)
Provide and operate the Service
- Creating your guest identity and, optionally, your saved account
- Running sessions, rooms, waves, reactions and notes; recording who shared a session
- Syncing your pal, settings and progress; managing your Boredom Pass
Legal basis: Contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Approximate country
- Deriving a country from your IP address to show a small flag beside your pal’s name
Legal basis: Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) in a light sense of place in rooms; you can hide the flag at any time in settings.
Safety and abuse prevention
- Validating names, rate-limiting reactions, handling blocks and reports, protecting accounts and the Service
Legal basis: Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Analytics & product improvement
- Understanding aggregate usage (which goals and lengths are used, how often rooms have company) and improving the Service
Legal basis: Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)); analytics is not used for third-party ads or cross-app tracking.
Crash reporting & diagnostics
Legal basis: Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) in stability and security.
Notifications & communications
- Reminders you set and service messages — Legal basis: Contract and legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)).
- Optional product updates — Legal basis: Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)).
Legal compliance
Legal basis: Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we balance our interests against your rights and expectations. You can object to processing based on our legitimate interests (see “Your rights”).
6. Service providers & international transfers
We use providers to process data on our behalf. By category:
- App distribution and in-app purchases: Apple Inc. and Google LLC. Apple and Google act as independent controllers for their store accounts and payments.
- Hosting, database and real-time infrastructure for accounts, rooms, notes and progress (for example Supabase and Vercel).
- Push notification delivery for reminders and service messages.
- Crash reporting and diagnostics.
- Email delivery for one-time account codes.
We aim to store personal data in the EU. Where data is transferred internationally (for example to the US for provider operations), we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or equivalent mechanisms where required by law. Current provider names are available on request at support@beboredapp.com.
7. Data retention
We keep data only as long as necessary for the purposes above:
Guest identity, account, pal, progress, Pass status
Retention: Kept while your account is active; deleted upon account deletion (subject to the backup period below).
Presence and room data
Retention: Transient. Kept only to operate the room and to record who shared a session, then reduced to the session record.
Reactions
Retention: Delivered after the recipient finishes or on their next visit, and expire after 24 hours if undelivered.
Notes
Retention: Shown to later visitors for a limited window (currently seven days) and kept in your own history until you delete them or your account.
Blocks and reports
Retention: Kept while needed to enforce the block and to handle the report.
Crash logs & analytics events
Retention: Short to moderate periods needed for diagnostics (e.g. ~90–180 days), then aggregated or deleted.
Backups & system logs
Retention: Deleted within 90 days after account deletion, subject to technical constraints.
If we need to keep specific data longer (for example to comply with legal obligations or to resolve disputes), we will keep it only for that limited purpose.
8. Account deletion & data export
You can delete your account and data at any time from the app’s settings, or by emailing support@beboredapp.com from the email you used to save your account (for guests, from the device in question). When you delete:
- Your guest identity or account, pal, settings, progress, Pass record, blocks and reactions are removed from our production systems.
- Notes you left are removed or detached from your pal and name.
- Backups and system logs that may still contain data are cleared within approximately 90 days.
Purchase records held by Apple, Google or the web payment provider are governed by their policies.
Data export: You can request a copy of your main data (account details, pal, progress and the notes you left) by emailing support@beboredapp.com. We will respond in line with applicable law.
9. Your rights (EEA/UK)
Subject to conditions and limitations under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data;
- Rectify inaccurate data;
- Erase data (“right to be forgotten”);
- Restrict processing;
- Data portability (for data you provided to us); and
- Object to certain processing based on legitimate interests (including the country flag, some analytics and communications).
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. In Denmark, this is Datatilsynet.
To exercise your rights, contact support@beboredapp.com. We may need to verify your identity.
10. Children’s privacy
bebored is not for children under 16. If you believe a minor under 16 is using the Service, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete the account and associated data.
11. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the risk, including:
- Encrypted transport (HTTPS) and access rules so that users only read what they are allowed to see;
- One-time codes for account access, no passwords to leak;
- Access controls and least-privilege practices;
- Limiting access to personal data to a small internal team that needs it for their job, under confidentiality obligations.
No method is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data in line with industry practices.
12. No advertising & tracking in the Service
We do not serve third-party ads or use third-party advertising SDKs in the apps or the web app, and we do not engage in cross-app tracking.
Our marketing website may use analytics or marketing cookies with your consent; see the Cookie Policy below.
13. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Policy as we evolve the Service. We will notify you of material changes where required (e.g., in-app notice or website banner). Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.

Cookie Policy (website)
This Cookie Policy explains how we use cookies and similar storage on our website beboredapp.com (the “Website”), including the web app at beboredapp.com/app. For what the app itself collects, see the Privacy Policy.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device to make the site work, keep it secure, and help us understand how it’s used. Similar technologies (like local storage or pixels) may be used for the same purposes.
2. How we use cookies and storage
We aim to be minimal and privacy-friendly.
Strictly necessary
- The marketing pages remember, for the current browser session only, whether you are on a phone or a desktop, so we can send phones to the web app. Nothing is sent to us.
- The web app at beboredapp.com/app stores your guest identifier, pal and settings in your browser’s local storage so that you stay you between visits. Clearing site data removes them.
- Remembering your cookie choices, if a banner is shown.
Analytics cookies (optional)
- Used to understand visits and improve the Website (e.g., page views, navigation patterns).
- If used, these will run only with your consent (via a banner) and will not be used to build cross-site advertising profiles.
Marketing / performance cookies (optional)
- Used to measure the performance of our marketing campaigns (for example, pixels from platforms like Meta or TikTok).
- These will only run with your consent via the banner and can be turned off at any time.
At the time of writing, no analytics or marketing cookies are set on the Website.
3. Your choices
If we introduce optional cookies, you will see a banner on your first visit where you can accept or reject analytics and marketing cookies, and change your choice later. Blocking strictly necessary storage may stop the web app from remembering you between visits.
4. Cookies and storage we use
- Necessary: session storage for the phone/desktop choice (deleted when you close the tab); local storage in the web app for your guest identity and settings (kept until you clear site data or delete your account).
- Analytics (if enabled): a first-party analytics cookie with a randomized identifier (e.g., ~6–12 months expiry).
- Marketing (if enabled): third-party cookies or pixels from advertising platforms with lifetimes as described in their respective policies.
We will keep this section updated with exact names and lifetimes if analytics or marketing tools are enabled.
5. Updates
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we change analytics or marketing providers. Material changes will be communicated via the banner or on this page.
